Doctors are urging the public to be aware of symptoms, which include a rosy rash, and seek help from their GP.

Data for 2017 suggests the rate may be falling, but experts remain cautious, saying it is "too early to tell".

A new study has found that although the risk of having a heart attack after sex is very low, the results found men are at more of a risk than women.

Men are more likely to suffer from a heart attack after sex than women.

According to researchers from the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles, the odds of going into cardiac arrest after getting jiggy between the sheets are very low, but they did find that it is higher for guys compared to ladies.

The researchers rummaged through more than 4,5000 cardiac arrests recorded over a 13-year period in the Portland...

If patients miss an appointment with their doctors you could be fined!

Half of GPs want to introduce fines for patients who do not turn up to appointments, a survey has revealed.

The poll by Pulse magazine found 51 per cent backed the idea of charges for patients who failed to turn up to booked slots.

GPs said charges might help patients to appreciate the value of the service, and make them more likely to turn up - or to cancel if they could not attend.

One suggested a £10 charge, while others suggested refundable deposit would make patients think twice...

Wounds heal more quickly if they occur during the day rather than after dark, a study suggests.

It found burns sustained at night took an average of 28 days to heal, but just 17 for those that happened in daytime.

The team, at the UK's MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, said they were astounded by the difference they saw in 118 burns patients they studied.

The effect was explained by the way body clock ticks inside nearly every human cell across a 24-hour cycle.

A new survey by YouGov has found that 3 in 10 Britons only brush their teeth once a day. You might think this is shocking news – especially to a pair of professional dentists. Not so. Naturally, we dentists encourage our patients to brush regularly. But in fact it’s far more important that they brush properly.

To give you an illustration: your dentist or hygienist will probably do a regular check on your teeth that awards you an overall “plaque score”. This score reflects the percentage surface area of your teeth that is covered or partially covered by plaque. Many patients who diligently...

Lots of studies have shown that cutting back on sleep, deliberately or otherwise, can have a serious impact on our bodies.
A few nights of bad sleep can really mess with our blood sugar control and encourage us to overeat. It even messes with our DNA.
