Thousands of low-paid people on universal credit will receive reduced payments or none at all over Christmas, in a fresh controversy about the new benefit.

The claimants will be hit because they are paid weekly and their income “will likely go over the universal credit limit”, officials say.

They will be able to reapply in January – but, it is feared, will be left without a payment from the Government over the Christmas and New Year period.

Governments in 30 countries pay 'keyboard armies' to spread propaganda, report says

At least 30 governments around the world are employing "keyboard armies" to spread propaganda and attack critics, a report has found.

The annual "Freedom on the Net" report from the think tank Freedom House showed that the spread of online misinformation went far beyond Russia and China to almost half of the 65 countries studied in the report.

It found governments including Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Turkey were using "paid pro-government commentators"...

PIP disability benefit: Concerns raised over NI assessments

More than 12,000 people in Northern Ireland have challenged the Department for Communities over the outcome of their initial PIP assessment.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a new benefit that is gradually replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

It was introduced in Northern Ireland last year.

PIP is harder to get than DLA because it places less importance on your diagnosis.

It focuses instead on how well you can function on a a day-to-day basis.
