1,400 workers at O2 Preston Brook, Runcorn, face uncertain times as takeover talks begin
Approximately 1,400 customer service staff working at mobile phone firm O2’s Preston Brook call centre near Runcorn face uncertain times.
The firm’s current owner, Spain’s Telefonica, has begun talks with rival mobile phone and communications firms about selling the business.
Any acquisition of O2 by Hutchison Whampoa, which already owns rival mobile phone network Three, could result in job cuts
The Communications Workers Union (CWU) is worried that the O2 deal to merge with Three will mean job losses, as has happened following another recent deal that saw 02 staff outsourced to Capita in a £1.25bn deal.
