Witnesses recall 'horrific' scenes that were 'like a war scene' as five women and one man confirmed dead
Three members of the same family are feared to be among six people killed when a bin lorry veered out of control and smashed into a crowd of shoppers in the centre of Glasgow.
Police Scotland have this morning confirmed five women and one man were killed during the incident.
The crash took place in George Square which was packed with Christmas shoppers and families at the annual winter carnival when the lorry mounted the pavement in the busy city centre before crashing into the Millennium Hotel on George Square, next to Queen Street Station.

Re: Glasgow bin lorry crash
Yes a particularly sad day for Glasgow.
I understand that Glasgow City Council offered to turn off the Christmas lights as a mark of respect to the dead and injured but the emergency services said that they were actually helping to illuminate the scene.
Also it should be remembered that Glasgow suffered a major tragic event just over a year ago when a Police Scotland helicopter crashed into the Clutha Vaults pub on the banks of the River Clyde with the loss of 14 lives - lets not forget the victims of that accident also.
