Anyone remember this? - Mon Dec 29, 2014 2:39 pm

It's 30 years since the UK's first mobile phone call

Note if you want to comment or have any tech news of your own then do register with our #social #forum

The first mobile phone call was made in the UK on an enormously clunky device on 1 January 1985

I had one of the first bulky mobile phones on the go and felt really neat when going to airports and so on carrying the thing, I had the Motorola type.

Network Rail said the work near the station was part of a £200m Christmas investment programme and described the move as "regrettable and unfortunate".

There have been chaotic scenes at Finsbury Park station in north London as passengers were diverted there - with many expressing their frustration as they tried to continue their journey.

David Walliams’ The Boy In The Dress leaves Twitter divided

Twitter was left in two minds about the BBC adaptation of David Walliams’ The Boy In The Dress.

It’s the story of the boy whose life was turned upside down when his mum left. He realises he feels different and thinks there must be something better to life. Lisa, the cool girl at school, helps Dennis create a new persona by dressing him up in girls clothes when he sees something in Vogue that intrigues him, and so they create ‘Denise’. But what will his football teammates and his dad think of his new alter-ego?

It starred Kate Moss, Jennifer Saunders, James Buckley and David Walliams himself, but although many loved the story as a book, the adaptation didn’t fare well for everyone.

that reminds me I must look in the wardrobe alien

City Link parcel delivery company goes into administration

if you have any news of your own or would like to comment on this topic then please register with our #social #forum

Parcel delivery company City Link, which employs 2,727 people, has gone into administration.

The company, owned by investment firm Better Capital, called in administrators on Christmas Eve after years of "substantial losses".

It stopped accepting parcels from customers at its head office and transport hub in Coventry, its three other transport hubs and 53 UK depots.

Administrators warned of "substantial redundancies" over the coming days.

This is because no buyer has been found to save the company.

A number of staff will be retained to help return parcels to customers and help with winding down the company, said joint administrators Ernst & Young.

Operations will be suspended at all the company's depots until Monday when customers and recipients will be able to collect their parcels, which they have been urged to do as soon as possible.

Bombshell for dairy farmers supplying Arla

Dairy farmers supplying Arla have been gifted the “worst possible Christmas present” with the news they face another cut to their milk price in January.

The European farmers’ cooperative announced on Tuesday, December 23, it will cut its standard litre milk price by 2.03 pence to 24.81p a litre from January 5.

This follows a 1.63 pence price cut on December 1.

The company, which produces Lurpak, Anchor and Cravendale, said the latest price cut was a result of a European-wide reduction of 2.5 eurocents per kilo to its price.

Arla’s head of milk and member services in the UK, Ash Amirahmadi, said: “Global supply and demand are still out of balance which is continuing to create downward pressure.
