If you were hoping to get your hand on the new wonder cholesterol drug on the NHS then think again as it is unlikely to be widely available.

is there a cure for hangover?

Raiding the fridge or downing glasses of water after a night of heavy drinking won't improve your sore head the next day, Dutch research suggests.

Instead, a study concluded, the only way to prevent a hangover is to drink less alcohol.
More than 800 students were asked how they tried to relieve hangover symptoms, but neither food nor water was found to have any positive effect.

The findings are being presented at a conference in Amsterdam.

A team of international researchers from the Netherlands and Canada surveyed students'...

Nearly three-quarters of supermarket chickens are contaminated with the potentially deadly bug campylobacter, according to a year-long study by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The watchdog is now putting pressure on supermarkets to take action after finding that all the major retailers failed to reach industry targets for reducing rates of campylobacter.

Some 19 per cent of the contaminated chickens were found to contain the highest rate of the bug, which is responsible for an estimated 280,000 cases of food poisoning a year.

The FSA tests found that Asda had the...

I would like to lose a couple of stone before this year is out, and am thinking about trying some of the various meal replacement shakes/bars around. I've been dieting and gaining it all back for a few years now, and have been to several slimming clubs, so have a basic idea of what I should be eating, but the first week or two is the challenge.

My husband thinks my plan is barmy, and that super low calorie diets are dangerous, but I really crave the mindless structure it would give me until I see a few pounds have gone and get more motivated. Am I really risking my health?

Two doctor's surgeries have been compulsory closed without notice by Care Quality Commission, in Hove leaving 10,00 patients without a GP. Instead it seems that these patients have to trek up to Brighton Railway Station to a Walk-in Heath Service, assuming that you are fit enough to travel there.

My mother has been dealing with sciatica pain for a while now. Her doctor only prescribes pain medication but doesn't really offer her any other alternatives for treatment. She would rather not have to take so many pills. Does anyone know of a natural remedy or some kind of therapy that can help alleviate the pain?

How to get Calpol, Sudocrem and other children’s medicines for free on the NHS

A mum discovered she had been paying for Calpol and other medicines for her children for eight years – when she could have got it all for free.

Much to her amazement, she could be getting it for free under the ‘minor ailments scheme’.

If you don't pay for prescriptions you may be able to receive advice and be given a medicine for a range of minor ailments, free of charge, on the NHS, without having to visit your doctor first.

“Minor ailments could include coughs, colds, headaches,...

For the first time in five years, I've been given the all-clear to attend blood donor sessions. I previously emailed the National Blood Service with my medical history and was told that despite suffering from incontinence and using a sheath catheter system, I would be accepable to donate blood. I therefore went along for my 46th blood donor session. Things have changed somewhat in the care of blood donors.

I'll explain the process in the UK. Here in the UK blood donation is done entirely free - nobody is paid for their blood donation. Nevertheless some two million units of blood are...
