Two reported dead in Belgian counter-terrorism raid


At least two people were killed when Belgian counter-terrorist police raided an apartment used by suspected Islamist radicals on Thursday, local media said, describing a coordinated, national operation related to last week's attacks in Paris.

Judiciary officials confirmed only that a counter-terrorism operation took place near the centre of Verviers, a town in the east of the country between the city of Liege and the German border.

UK farmers

Yesterday the National Farmers Union (NFU) said the number of British dairy farms has halved since 2002, falling to 9,960 thanks to a combination of falling prices and rising costs.

The price of milk is at 20p per litre, its lowest level since 2007, but production costs have increased by 36% over the same period. NFU's research found that 60 dairy producers gave up in December 2014 alone and that at the current rate there will only be 5,000 left by 2025.

The Twitter and YouTube accounts of the US military command have been hacked by a group claiming to back Islamic State.

One message said: "American soldiers, we are coming, watch your back."

It was signed by Isis, another name for the Islamic State. Some internal military documents also appeared on the Centcom Twitter feed.

Centcom said it was taking "appropriate measures". The Twitter account, which usually provide updates on strikes against IS, was later taken down.

SpaceX troubles

An unmanned SpaceX rocket blasted off on Saturday to deliver a cargo capsule to the International Space Station, but narrowly failed a novel test to land itself on a platform in the ocean, the company said.
